Thiago Alcantara is ‘very likely’ to leave Bayern Munich and join Liverpool this summer, according to reports.
The Spain international was linked with a host of top Premier League sides this summer, but it appeared as though Paris Saint-Germain were frontrunners.
Reports in France claimed Thomas Tuchel had won the race to sign the 31-year-old, but there appears to have been a sting in the tail.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are now ‘very likely’ to sign the former Barcelona midfielder and are willing to meet the Bundesliga champions’ €30million (£27m) asking price.
Thiago, who has one year left on his current deal in Munich, made it evidently clear he wanted to leave this summer in search of a new challenge.
Having been courted by Manchester United in 2011, the midfielder decided to finally leave Barca for good in 2013.
In that time, he has won seven Bundesliga titles and was named in the FIFAPro World XI in 2017. But it seems as though he is now heading for Anfield.
The Premier League champions have made it clear they cannot afford extravagant signings this summer, having missed out on Timo Werner to Chelsea.
Yet the departure of Adam Lallana to Brighton has shifted wages from the books and presented an opening in midfield.
